Dear blog
How have you been?
I managed to drag myself into work on Thursday, which was a struggle, while Friday a little less so.
Yesterday was a very busy day, all of it good, some of it very good – look what I brought home from the shop! Isn’t she gorgeous?
Yay! It’s Judy! Fully serviced! Cleaner than ever! With a brand new needle plate, finally one with markings!
Look how delighted my high shank presser feet look! I can hear them giggling with excitement from here!
So how am I spending today, I hear you ask?
Why of course, knitting. There will be more about this soon, but suffice it to say I am not as fond of knitting as I used to be, so this one has to be special.
On the plus side, I get to do it all from my bed while watching some more 30 Rock, which always makes me happy.

Beautiful machine! I don’t think I have ever seen a Jones.
Thanks! I think she’s a beauty, and blue on top of that
Jones were made in Stalybridge, near Manchester where I live, maybe that’s why there’s a lot of them around here (as I learnt when I was choosing this one).
I have never seen one this side of the pond. Looks very well made. What year is it?
Hey there
I have been to your blog and it’s lovely!
There isn’t an awful lot of info about the brand, but the man in the shop that serviced it said the machine is about 20 years old. It’s still all metal and “built like a tank” (as they say here) because it was actually a semi-industrial machine, which also explains why it’s a high shank model.
I bought it on eBay and spent the last hour of the auction haggling with the seller over how much extra cash he wanted to drive it to my house, since it’s in a table and I do not have a car.
Seller told it belonged to his mother, who passed away about 17 years ago, and had been in storage since. Of the bits and bobs that came with it, 90% were for sewing with leather, so I am guessing that is what this lady did. I even got some Glovers’ hand needles with it!
I have since found out that the same model, in working order, changes hands for 8-10 times what I paid for mine, so I think I did really well there! Not that I would part with it ever!
Very cool! I would have guessed that it was much older from the styling, but that makes sense if it is semi-industrial. They tend not to change the styling much on industrials.
