Hey all,
This is my own contribution to the hilarious “Sewing in the media” series of post over at The Perfect Nose. If you haven’t read them, you really should.
I was recently watching Series 4 of the IT Crowd – if you haven’t watched it, you really should. It’s brilliant and it just gets better every time.
In episode 6, Reynholm VS Reynholm, Douglas spends a lot of time making a suit to wear to court. Now, am I the only one who thinks there’s something wrong with this picture? Because even if he was left-handed this wouldn’t be right? Lefties, help me out here please!

I love the I T Crowd! I haven’t seen this episode and it will be really funny to see Douglas using a sewing machine!
One of my favorites! I forget which episode, but in the background of their office, one of the signs is this one: http://webzone.k3.mah.se/k3bope/img/homesewing1.gif
Naturally, my husband secretly printed it and hung it up in my sewing room right behind my machine! Makes me laugh every time. {He is definitely sewing from behind the machine in this picture, so funny}
That sign is brilliant! I can’t believe I never noticed it in their office, but then it is quite messy! I think I will print one for my sewing room. Thanks for pointing it out!
Carl wants me to print it out and stick it on my laptop. Just in case people weren’t confused enough at the library already..
hahah, amazing!
I think we should start a movement to spread that Home Sewing sign!
I also love how it uses sewing to ironically reflect the views of the show’s creator, Graham Linehan, on downloading tv shows. It makes me like it even more. (Disclaimer: I am a Graham Linehan nerd).
I agree with the movement! I’m thinking I might to a post on it here soon. So many levels of brilliant are in that show:)
Hahahaha I love (hate) Douglas XD I don’t remember seeing this one.. It’s a regular sewing machine he’s just sitting ‘behind’ it (which is weird because the fabric would be coming ‘at’ him instead of moving away from him XD so Douglas…) love it!
Ha! You are so right, it’s nothing more than a Douglas thing to do, especially since the reverse lever needs to be held… my first machine was like that! Thanks for clearing that up and trust me to complicate something like this! XD
